Amber - My First French Lop - A Lovely Fawn Doe - Born 2007

And of Course Stella - At Only 6 Months Old!!

Amber and Stella's Progeny Litter 1

Amber and Stella produced 4 very nice kits in their first litter. 1 Opal buck, 1 Blue Chin doe, 1Ghost Chin doe and 1 Fawn buck. What a litter all beautiful colours, and a small litter,  so very  good for Amber. These are all agouti pattern rabbits. It told me Amber didn't carry self. This meant I would never be able to breed Tan Pattern rabbits from her.

This is Dylan. He is an Opal buck. He was my favourate of the litter because I almost lost him at 3 days old. He survived and ran with his dad until he was 5/6 months old. Stella became a bit bossy with him at that stage so I decided to rehome Dylan. He is now living with Jude at Lunanhead Lops.

Dylan had the run of the place house and garden, and always made himself at home. He was quite a character.

This is Sapphire a Blue Chinchilla doe (correctly known as a Squirrell). I kept Sapphire until she was about 9 months old. She was a really special bunny and reminded me a lot of her mum. she was confident and absolutely stunning to look at. Sapphire also had a lovely nature. Sapphire and Willow shared a hutch until they were 7 months old but when they reached sexual maturity Sapphire started to bully Willow. I could let them run in the garden together but in the hutch Willow was becoming timid. I decided to move Sapphire on as I had bought Willow in to move forward with my Tan project. It was a very sad day when she went. She is now living happily with Gillian at Campsie Minature Lops.  She like her mum is just one of those once in a lifetime pets and they will both always have a very special place in my heart.

Rainbow the fawn buck. A very nice rabbit who had a really boyish head from about 2 weeks old. Rainbow was always shy as a baby and sat bottom of the pecking order. He would often hide behind his sisters. He is still a shy bunny to this day but lives with his sister Rosie who was the boss of the litter, so he feels safe and secure!

Notice how Rainbow's colour has changed. Like many fawns he developed a bluey hue to his coat as he matured. He is a very big rabbit with a super head and set on of ears. Difficult to see in this pic.

Rosie the Ghost Chin. She was very much the boss of the litter. Closely followed by Sapphire. In fact Rosie and Sapphire often had tiffs. Rosie has been spayed and lives very happily with her brother Rainbow. They are owned by Angela and Martin and are very happy and well cared for bunnies. Rosie is still the boss!

Ghost Chinchillas are basically a chinchilla rabbit with non extension (ee). This takes out the yellow colour from the hair. They can appear very very white as babies and as they have blue eyes people often assume they are blue eyed whites. As a ghost chin matures the coat darkens a little as can be seen in Rosie. They are very pretty rabbits.

Amber and Stella's Progeny  - Litter 2

Amber had a second litter by mistake. I knew she didn't carry self so had no intention of taking another litter. My husband and I went on holiday and my 2 teenage children (late teens) looked after the pets. About two weeks after we returned Amber started nest building. Initially any meeting between Amber and Stella was denied. when the kits were born and the immaculate conception theory didn't hold up we eventually got an admission. They had let Amber out to catch Stella. He had been playing up and was refusing to go away for the night. Apparently letting Amber out went badly wrong and both bunnies took off and hid under a hutch, but only for 2 minutes! Hmmmm.......  The result was 6 beautiful kits. 3 Opals, 2 Blue Chins and a Fawn. I would love to hear from the owners of the Opals so I can update their progress here.

Bree the Blue Chin. A lovely doe who now lives with Jaqueline, along with her mum the beautiful Amber, and brother Zach!

Zach a fawn buck was always a stunning bunny; he was my pick of the litter. I initially thought he was a she - with some it can be very difficult to tell (sorry Jaqueline)!  This explains the little girls amazing head as a baby.

He is a lovely young adult and although fawn like his mum, he reminds me of his dad!
